HASBROUCK HEIGHTS BOARD OF EDUCATION
SPECIAL MEETING AND WORK SESSION II MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, March 19, 1998

 

A special and work session meeting of the Board of Education was held on Thursday, March 19, 1998, in the Administration Building, 379 Boulevard, Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by the President, Dr. Burnett Eglow.

Dr. Eglow read the following statement:

"Pursuant to the New Jersey Open Public Meeting Act, Public Law 1975, Chapter 231, the Board Secretary caused notice of this meeting to be given to the public and the press on March 13, 1998".

Roll Call was taken by Roberta Henriquez, Board Secretary, and the following members responded to their names:

Present - Mrs. Carroll Dr. MacDonall Mr. Case

Also present - Dr. Stepura, Mrs. Henriquez, Mr. Dzwilewski

Public Discussion on Resolution To To Acted Upon - None

Mr. Suriano reported on the changes in the referendum question. He asked if anyone had a problem with the question and it was the consensus of the board to take the word 'also' out of the second question. It should read 'If Proposal A is approved'.

The following resolution was moved by Mr. Suriano, seconded by Mrs. Nasuta and carried:

RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR A SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT ELECTION TO BE HELD ON MAY 12, 1998 FOR CONSIDERATION OF TWO SCHOOL BOND PROPOSALS.

RESOLUTION: Be It Resolved by the Board of Education of the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights in 3-295-98 the County of Bergen, New Jersey (not less than a majority of the

1. It is hereby determined that the following proposals will be submitted for voter approval at the special election to be scheduled for May 12, 1998 between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. as permitted and required by law:

PROPOSAL NO. A

The Board of Education of the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights in the County of Bergen, New Jersey is authorized (a) to provide for the construction of additions and renovations at the Euclid Elementary School, the Lincoln Elementary School, the Hasbrouck Heights Junior Senior High School, including construction of a multipurpose physical education room at the Junior Senior High School and including acquisition and installation of furnishings and equipment and site work, and (b) to issue bonds of the school district for such purposes in the principal amount of $8,795,000.

2. This Board of Education hereby approves and adopts the proposals set forth above and, subject to the approval of the legal voters of the School District, hereby determines to carry out the same.

NAYS: None

Mr. Suriano then reported on the estimated cost of the referendum. He reviewed with the board the figures from the bond counsel. He noted that these figures are based on a home assessed at $200,000. A copy is attached to the minutes. The members discussed the term
