Superintendent's Report
March 29, 2001

 

Congratulations to our district's selections for the Governor's Teacher Recognition Award: Mrs. Lori Cintron, Mrs. Eileen LaTorre, Mrs. Arleen Dunne.

Junior-Senior High School

The community has been involved through the Winter "POPS" Concert, PTSA Founders Day ceremonies, and the play "Grease."

We are in the midst of planning our orientation meetings for incoming Sixth Graders and incoming Freshmen. The course request phase of the scheduling process for the 2001 - 2002 school year has been completed. Students have completed the third edition of The Pilot's Log.

The senior editors of the 2001 Coronian under the advisorship of Mrs. Meyer have completed creating their unique version of the school's annual yearbook.

Every morning before school, members of the Math Club assist any student who wishes to seek help.

Middle Level students showed their support for another important charity when they "Jump Rope" and "Shoot Hoops" for Heart in gym last week.

In February, Gary G.i was honored by the Newark Star Ledger as the Bergen County Winter Track Runner of the Year.

On March 11th, at the Continental Arena, Morgan H. won the 189lb. State Championship. Morgan is only the second wrestler in the history of the school to win a State Championship in Wrestling and the first to receive Most Outstanding Wrestling Honors.

The High School Art Department coordinated a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the Vermeer Exhibit on March 13th.

Technology 9 students have created 3-D device for displaying quotes and other visuals.

Total student enrollment as of February 28, 2001 is 793; High School - 414, Middle Level - 379



Euclid School

Euclid School actively participated in the "Read Across America" program on Friday, March 2nd. Guest readers read books in individual classrooms.

On Friday, March 2nd, the Euclid PTA sponsored its annual Art Auction.

The National PTA Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco Awareness Week culminated on Friday, March 9th, with the entire student body cheering against drugs.

Jump Rope For Heart was held on Wednesday, March 7th.

Euclid School held Kindergarten Round Up on Wednesday, March 14th. Enrollment to date is 29 students.

Euclid School held our annual Achievement Night for students and their families on Thursday, March 15th.

Fifth grade students from Euclid and Lincoln Schools participated in the culmination of the D.A.R.E. program on Thursday, March 8th at the Kiefer Auditorium. The children celebrated with a little party chaperoned by some members of the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department and also parent volunteers.

On Tuesday, February 27th, Dr. Bodenstein and Dr. Mason, local dentists, examined student's teeth in grades 1-5, with parental permission.

Successful fire drills were held on Friday, March 16, 2001 and Friday, March 23, 2001.
The current enrollment at Euclid School is 334.



Lincoln School

Our Drug Free Week at Lincoln School was an incredible success. The Lincoln School PTA, along with the Euclid School PTA, coordinated a fun filled week on educational activities and programs that supported a drug free lifestyle during National PTA Drug, Alcohol, Tobacco Awareness Week.

On Friday, March 16th, Lincoln School second graders had the opportunity to take their yearly field trip to the circus.

Students in the first grade are learning how to say "please" and "thank you" in French. They recently enjoyed hearing Goldilocks and the Three Bears in French.

Students in grades 2, 3 and 5 were administered the Terra Nova test during the week of March 19th.

On Monday, February 19th, teachers from grades 3 to 5 from both Euclid and Lincoln School met to complete the sequencing for the aligned Social studies curriculum.

On March 1st, Lincoln School faculty had the opportunity to participate in a GOALS 2000 Workshop dedicated to Work Place Readiness and Technology. Professor Bob Hillenbrand, from Felician College, met with K-2, 4 & 5 and special area teachers to discuss the many ways in which workplace readiness and technology standards can be weaved into our existing curriculums.

On February 27th, all students in grades K-5 had the opportunity to learn all about the process of making paper.

Lincoln School held the annual Kindergarten Roundup registration on March 14th. Mrs. McClean, Mrs. Raymond and many Lincoln School PTA members assured an organized registration through their organized efforts. As of this writing, 46 children have been registered at Lincoln School.

Fire drills for staff and students occurred on March 8, 2001 and March 20, 2001.

The enrollment for Lincoln School as of March 23, 2001 is 331
