HHFD-EMS Captains Award Presentation
The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department convened December 19, 2007 for its last Emergency
Medical Services (EMS) monthly meeting for 2007. During this meeting, EMS Captain Ron
Botelho presented the EMS Captains Award with trophies to 9 members of
the Hasbrouck Heights Police and Fire Departments for their dedication to duty for one
particular emergency medical call that had a significant outcome to patient care.

18th Annual Lego Event
A wonderful time was had by all at The Librarys 18th Annual Leggo My
Lego Day November 10, 2007. Over 150 people were in attendance. All the children
made excellent, creative designs. The two architects, Constance Gill and Ella Krylinska,

Annual Halloween Bash for seniors, the news spread like wild fire; in fact, seniors from

about the great spread the host provided in the past or was it because they all love

Area residents could stroll The Boulevard during late October where local
businesses, in conjunction with the three grammar school PTAs, sponsored the 14th
Annual Halloween Window Painting Contest.

5K Walk for Dyslexic Children Held on New Track
The 32nd Masonic Learning Center for Children, located at 301 Division Avenue, held its
4th Annual Hasbrouck Heights 5K Walk to Help Dyslexic Children on Saturday, October 13,
2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Depken Field (Franklin & Route 17). This walk was the
first event on the new Depken Field Track. (The track markings were made only 10 days

MDA Labor Day Telethon Volunteers @ VFW Post 2007
The 42nd Muscular Dystrophy Telethon began Sunday, September 2, 2007 at 9 p.m. and ran
through Monday, September 3rd until 6 p.m. Over 300 volunteers helped answer 100 phones

In the Nick of Time
The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department responded to a smoke condition at Nicks Quick
Stop, 183 Boulevard, about 11:30 a.m., Sunday, September 2, 2007. A small fire in the
storage area was extinguished by the owners. The cause of the fire was undetermined and

The Almost Disaster
It could have been a disaster. But wasnt. On Friday afternoon, August 24th,
about 2:18 p.m., a fully loaded gasoline tanker collapsed on Route 17 at the jug-handle

On the evening of August 22, 2007, the Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department conducted
training at a Kipp Avenue house scheduled for demolition. The exercise was led by First
Assistant Chief Mike Ratowski, Rescue Lt. Chris Halloran and Ladder Company Capt. Brian

Lenox Recovers Jet
The Aviation Hall of Fame (AHOF) received a 36 foot long, 12,500 lb. forward fuselage of a
Convair 880 (N803TW) on Tuesday, August 7, 2007. It was transported from Atlantic City
Airport by Lenox Corporation. Bill Lenox started working on this project with the AHOF in
November 2006.

Handicap Accessible Park Comfort Station Dedicated
Community Access for All Committee dedicated the new comfort station in Woodland
Park on August 5, 2007. The new brick comfort station is fully handicap accessible
with extra wide doors, mobility space for wheelchairs, oversized stalls and new safety

The Junior Womens Club of Hasbrouck Heights hosted Story Hour at the Hasbrouck

256 Attend Potter Party
At the stroke of 12:01 a.m., before a crowd of 256 eager readers at the Free
Public Library of Hasbrouck Heights, J.K. Rowlings final volume in her Harry Potter
series was released to the sound of excited cheering. The long-awaited Harry Potter
and the Deathly Hallows is sure to be an instant classic and enjoyed for many years
to come. The Librarys Harry Potter Party and Book Sale was the place to be, where
Muggles and Wizard wanna-bes of all ages came in droves on July 20th from 9:30 p.m. till 2
a.m.

Rt. 17 Accident Injures Eight
On July 9, at about 2:17 p.m., the HHPD received calls of a multiple motor vehicle
accident on Route 17 North. It was reported that a car with six passengers came in
contact with a tractor trailer while changing lanes, overturned, slid on its roof and was
then rear ended by another vehicle that then crashed into a pick-up truck parked at
Kundert Motors. The tractor trailer continued down Rt. 17 striking two more vehicles.
