BOROUGH OF HASBROUCK HEIGHTS

M I N U T E S

January 9, 2001

A Regular Meeting of the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights was held on January 9, 2001 at 8 p.m. at the Masonic Hall, 200 Division Avenue, corner of the Boulevard, Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey.

Mayor Torre stated that the meeting complied with the Sunshine Law, due notice having been made to all members by personal service on January 1, 2001 and to The Observer, The Record and the Herald News on January 1, 2001.

ROLL CALL: Present: Councilman Andrew Link III, Councilman Herbert D. Heeren, Councilman Justin A. DiPisa, Councilman Garrett R. Pepe, Councilwoman Marlene Verrastro, Councilman John Wassberg

Absent: None

 

SALUTE TO THE FLAG AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Mayor Torre led in the Salute to the Flag and Pledge of Allegiance.

 

COMMUNICATIONS: None

 

PETITIONS: None

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: None

 

BILLS:

BE IT RESOLVED that the claims and accounts amounting to $1,511,149.02 specified in the schedule hereto annexed, having been examined and approved by the Finance Commissioner, or his Deputy, be paid and that warrants be issued therefor.

On a motion by Councilman Wassberg, seconded by Councilman Pepe, and unanimously carried, the foregoing resolution was adopted.

 

CONSENT AGENDA:
15. Authorize Raffle License for Hasbrouck Heights Jr./Sr. High School PTSA

On a motion by Councilman Pepe, seconded by Councilwoman Verrastro, and unanimously carried, the foregoing Consent Agenda resolution was approved.

 

RESOLUTIONS:
16. Marriage Licenses - Payment of Fees to State

17. Construction - Payment of Fees to State

18. Authorizing of Renewal of Bond Anticipation Note

19. Authorizing Tenure of Department of Public Works Superintendent Robert Heck

20. Authorizing Contract with Scott G. Sproviero, Esq., as Planning Board Attorney for the Year 2001

21. Authorizing Contract with Engineer, Auditor and Attorney for the Year 2001

22. Authorizing Checks to Bergen Commercial Bank on Bond Anticipation Note #1-2000

On a motion by Councilman Wassberg, seconded by Councilman Pepe, and unanimously accepted, the foregoing Resolutions were approved.

Mayor Torre commended DPW Superintendent Robert Heck who was just approved for tenure, on the excellent job done throughout the borough of snow removal.

On a motion by Councilman Wassberg, seconded by Councilman Pepe, and unanimously approved, the foregoing Resignations were accepted with regret.

 

ORDINANCE (S) ON INTRODUCTION: None

 

ORDINANCES ON ADOPTION: None

 

PRESENTATION:
Certificates of Achievement were presented to The Pilot’s Log Award Recipients for having been awarded first place at the Fall High School Journalism Convention sponsored by the National Scholastic Press Association. Certificates were presented to Lora Geftic, advisor, Carl Chen, layout editor, Cameron Javid, Allison Winka, Shane Turner, and Laura Gorman and Kristen Mattei, co-editors-in-chief. Ms. Geftic commended the students who put in many hours, including personal time, to accomplish their tasks, and that they had reached their pinnacle and few schools walk away with that honor.

 

MISCELLANEOUS FROM PUBLIC:

This being the first meeting of the month, the Mayor dispensed with opening the meeting to the public and said that the meeting would be open to the public on January 23, 2001.

 

RECESS FOR CAUCUS:

The Mayor announced that the meeting would be recessed for Caucus.

 

ADJOURN:

There being no further business to be conducted by the Mayor and Council, the meeting was adjourned.
