Tri-State Aviation Expo 2002
Teterboro Airport, August 16 & 17, 2002

Sponsored by The NJ Aviation Hall of Fame

The Tri-State Aviation Expo was the first event of its kind in the NYC area. It's purpose was to bring all aspects of aviation together under one roof, pilots, aviation businesses, aviation enthusiasts, model builders, computer flight simmers, and collectors of aviation memorabilia.

The event consisted of the following:

  • 12,000 square feet of vendors, aviation memorabilia, books, videos, models and militaria.

  • A full category IPMS (International Plastic Modelers Society) scale model contest

  • Com-Central (www.com-central.net) Aces' Convention Virtual Fighter Pilot Competition

  • An Antique car/Hot-rod exhibit

  • Military vehicles and a WW2 reenactor encampment

  • A 700 model WW2 aircraft collection by NJAHOF Show Director Jeff Herne

  • A static display of helicopters, including a Bell AH-1 'Cobra' attack helicopter.

 

Scheduled guest speakers and lectures included:

  • Col. Brian Murphy, USAF, Dir. of Operations of the 4322 Composite Wing. Col. Murphy flew F-4G 'Wild Weasel' Phantoms in the Gulf War and F-16s over Afghanistan.

  • Capt. Ben Cascio, USMC Ret., 852 mission Vietnam H-34 pilot, who was seriously wounded when he extracted fellow Marines while under heavy fire -- earning him a Silver Star.

  • Lt. Calvin Spann, 99FG, original Tuskegee Airman, Cal flew P-51 Mustangs over Germany in WW2.

  • Shea Oakley, airliner historian, presented 'From Props to Jets' describing the transition from prop airliners to jets in the early 1960s.

  • In addition, there were lectures on scale modeling by members of NJ IPMS, and pilot safety seminars presented by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Note: Due to the security situation at Teterboro Airport following September 11, 2001, the NJ Aviation Hall of Fame's Annual 'Wings and Wheels' show was cancelledfor 2002.  The Museum hopes to continue with the Wings and Wheels event and the Tri-State Aviation Expo in 2003.
