Carroll's Fashion
Celebrates 60th Anniversary

For the past 60 years, Carroll's Fashions has been a staple in Hasbrouck Heights for women's clothing. Originating as Carter's in 1944, Carroll's Fashion was renamed by Dorothy Schwab and her daughter Nancy Wisse in the late 1950's. The name "Carroll" was created by Dorothy as she felt double letters were lucky.

The Dorothy Carroll Shop first appeared in Ridgewood with the Heights location opening on the corned or Franklin Avenue and The Boulevard -- which is now Minuteman Press. Whether luck in name or otherwise, Carroll's is still around after these many years.

In the late 1960's Dorothy sold the Ridgewood store to help Nancy in the Heights location. They managed the store together until they sold it to distant relatives, Aleline and George Eggers in 1972.

George and Aleline had previously sold a very successful Delicatessen and Liquor store in Secaucus. In 1978, George and Adeline decided to move Carroll's to a larger location which was formally Food Town. Those who have visited Carroll's will remember that George and Adeline created a warm and friendly, helpful environment in which to shop.

Their son, George Eggers, Jr. joined the family business around 1984 after graduating from William Paterson College with a degree in Business Management and Retail Administration.

George and Adeline eventually retired to Punta Gorda, Florida which was recently hit by Hurricane Charlie. Fortunately, George and Adeline were visiting New Jersey at the time and their damage was minimal.

George and "Addie" as she is known, both continue to pop in from time to time to give George Jr. a hand, especially during sidewalk sales and the holidays. When they do, they always enjoy seeing the happy, familiar faces of those wonderful customers who have shopped at Carroll's for may years.

Additions to Carroll's have included a location in Secaucus and purchase of Epstein's in Clifton. While both of these locations are now closed, many of their loyal customers have made the transition to Hasbrouck Height store.

Over the years, Carroll's has gone though may exciting changes in order to keep up with the ever changing retail environment. However, one thing has not changed and that is the old fashioned focus on service.

In addition to women's and men's fashion, Carroll's has expanded to offer a wide variety of merchandise. Today in Carroll's offers sports wear, sweaters, tops & blouses, active wear, shoes, greeting cards, lingerie, pantyhose, times socks, gloves, scarves, jewelry, handbags, wallets, umbrellas and more.

Carroll's strives to offer "one stop shopping" in a friendly and helpful atmosphere.

Carroll's has not forgotten that the customer comes first. Carroll's still aims to please with free gift wrapping, great prices, connivent location with free parking.

Carroll's success is due to the wonderful following of loyal customers who brighten the days, and Carroll's caring staff that enjoys assisting them.  ###
