Train - Auto Collision
[Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department]

On Thursday, May 20, 2004 at approximately 6:30 p.m. the HHFD responded to a train/auto collision at Malcom/Franklin Avenue. The commuter train was bound for Spring Valley from Hoboken when the engineer saw the vehicle, and was able to slow the train before impact.

Christina Amaral, 29 of Belleville was taken to hospital after complaining of neck and back injuries after the train struck the rear of her Cadillac Escalade.  Amaral received a summons for failing to obey a railroad crossing warning device,  according to NJ Transit spokesperson Penny Bassett Hackett.
