Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, Hasbrouck Heights Lodge #1962 and Hackensack Lodge #658 held a combined Flag Day Ceremony at the Hasbrouck Heights Lodge on June 14, 2007. Since 1908, every Elks Lodge has held a Flag Day Ceremony.

Highlights of the ceremony included Wood-Ridge Scouts presenting period U.S. Flags while the history of the Flag was read. Essay winners from Lodi Columbus School read their work -- Sabrina Graziano (1st Place) and Sarah Jordan Mann LoRusso (3rd Place). The essays were based upon “Why I am proud to be an American” and were part of the Northeast District (10 Lodge) contest. These essays were also submitted for state level competition. ###

Flag Day 2007

It was red, white and blue all over Heights on Flag Day, June 14th. Just about every home in Hasbrouck Heights had a flag on their front lawn, compliments of Century 21/Eudan Realty.

Starting at 5:00 a.m., agents and their families distributed over 3,500 flags the Saturday before Flag Day. Their goal was to have the majority of flags lining every street before folks woke up.
According to the Agency owner Dave Fanale, “We have been doing these flags for seven years. This is just a way of showing the great patriotism in Hasbrouck Heights.”

The message attached to each flag was: Never Forget ... United We Stand.

Additionally, just about every home in town posted their own American flag, and some even displayed their service and state flags.

The DPW posted scores of free-standing American Flags along the Boulevard for Flag Day.
The Municipal Complex was decorated with red, white and blue bunting and banners before Memorial Day which continues until after July 4th. ###
